What do a mum suffering anxiety, two women with severe exhaustion and chronic pain, a woman suffering from cluster headaches and a sporty obese 11-year-old all have in common?
They have all been treated successfully by Dr. Chatterjee, star of BBC’s Doctor in the House.
In the series, Dr. Chatterjee visits families who have chronic health issues. Through a series of consultations and clinical tests, Dr. Chatterjee diagnoses the root causes of these ailments. Taking a non-traditional medical approach, he investigates every aspect of their lives and viewers witness the astonishing results.
In episode 4, we meet two families, one with chronic pain and fatigue and the other who is pre-diabetic. So many things in this particular episode resonated with me, both as an individual who experienced chronic pain for several years (read my story here) and also as a practitioner. When I meet my clients for the first time, they have often suffered for years because they haven’t received the time, care, and attention they need (and deserve) to get to the root cause of their ill health. Why wait until you have diabetes?? Now is the time to act, prevention is far more powerful.
When it comes to chronic pain, Dr. Chatterjee talks a lot about mindfulness and switching off that stress response. Mindfulness, breathing exercises, practising kindness are all really helpful tools we can use to support our nervous systems. Please know that this does not mean your physical pain is ‘all in your head’: it simply means you are switching off your inflammatory stress response and supporting your nervous system, which allows your body to heal.
